Shakira is a first-year Master of Social Welfare student intern at CARE, supporting prevention education, healing programming, and survivor advocacy. She currently attends the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs with plans to become a licensed clinical social worker. She is excited to begin her social work career through the CARE Program and learn how to best support and advocate for survivors.

Before attending UCLA, Shakira worked at the Burbank Public Library, where she facilitated educational and community events for library patrons of all ages. Additionally, she served on the City of Burbank’s first-ever Bookmobile Committee, dedicated to increasing library and resource access within the community.

Shakira was born and raised in Los Angeles and earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from UC Irvine. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, admiring her cats, and spending time with her friends and family.
